Today, I was reading this months edition of ELLE magazine on my usual commute back home; it was a great edition, all about fashion interns and making space for new talent in addition to paying tribute to legends that have paved the way for fashion and other notable visual icons. There was a another issue on women’s rights and how far we have come in the fight for equality, all of which I found empowering and engaging to read. So you can imagine my surprise when I went on the ELLE UK website (I was fishing around for more to share with you guys), and on the cover was a feature on ‘Diet Boosters’ , recommending a variety of diet pills that young women could take to stimulate weight loss before summer such as ‘fat burning cocktails, chlorophyll and other non natural based substances’

Anyways, I believe enjoying fashion and popular culture is about relishing in all the light hearted things in life, loving life and being totally in love with who you are, your surrounds, sharing ideas and being visually stimulated. As mentioned in some of my previous posts, I can’t stand it when all this fashiony stuff, just stops being fun, and then being a vessel perpetuate self hatred, discontentment and unrealistic false needs. (I would like to add, the girls dieting in the feature were slimmer than a UK size 6. I don’t think that is neither right nor realistic).
Just popped into Tottenham court road @ lunch time to get the Xbox Kinect Dance Central game, and I saw these beauties on the ALDO shop window, they are called FORWOOD, and i think they should be FOR’ME. lol I love them, I did take a picture on my BB but for some reason I can’t seem to the pic. Nevertheless, I loved them, and I am sure most you of you would love them to. I must admit, its more about the design than the shape, but they will do!
Red. The colour of bravery, daring and power. If you’re feeling powerful, wearing red lets everyone know you’re a force to be reckoned with.Wear a major item in red if you’re ready to make a splash.
A red dress will never leave you in the shadows. But don’t get crazy–wear black, neutral or neutral-metallic accessories.
Mix red with neutrals if you’d like attention but don’t need to steal the whole show.
Red and black can look very 80s (which is good if you have the swagger to pull it off). however red, black and white is modern, and depending on hue, you can pair red with other neutrals like gray, brown or beige. Dark chocolate pants and a berry red shirt. ;-)
Wearing red in a professional setting? I would advise to wear an almost hidden spark of red.
If your destination is conservative or you’re feeling shy try a neutral jacket with a red lining that shows only when you move. Or a pair of black Christian Louboutin spike heels with signature red soles. The great thing is you won’t come across as timid. This subtle use of red says “I’m sexy and I’m powerful, I’m just too cool to shout about it.” So whatever your occasion or mood, there’s a perfect way to celebrate your personal power with red.

Jennifer: Kicking off in 2008 as a hobby, it all began when I chose to hand-make unique gifts for my friends’ birthdays, both male and female. A year and many birthdays later the result was a diverse range of jewellery and accessories that covered their equally diverse tastes. Spending so much time and love tinkering away at it I decided to take a big leap in 2009 and leave my 9 year career in post-production to pursue jewellery design full time (hurray!)

A betting company has actually commissioned a pair of horse hoof boots to mark the start of the Cheltenham festival. I can only assume (or hope) that this part of some farmer fetish!Reactions ranged from, “What the fudge is that?” (although the word “fudge” is, shall we say, a paraphrase), to, “I need to take a twitpic”. At no point were the words “chic”, “cool” or “OMG you look just like Kate Moss” uttered, at least not in my hearing. I would make the inevitable joke that these are not fuck-me shoes so much as ride-me boots but that makes me sound like a model for Guy Bourdin, which, frankly, is an even less appealing proposition than resembling a horse.

Arhh, today has been quite pleasant actually, the sun is out and I always can’t help to feel optimistic about the promise of summer, I find its one of the most positive influence on the British. Quite scary when you think about it! I also think that this year, now that I’m working in the heart of London I will take more time to venture into the hidden treasures tucked away in the many corners of London. Just today I was taken to ‘Valerie’s Patisserie’, 2-6 Sicilian Avenue, Holborn. It sits between the main road and a quite avenue which boasts of beautiful architecture, which too often I’m running too late to see. I had a hearty pot of tea and a plain cheesecake, which was delicious :- ) but about the size of a brick (the portions were quite generous, I say that but i still managed to eat it all!)
It’s certainly a lovely quiet and comfortable spot to go if you want some peace and quiet away from the office… and some quality calories to compliment your day :- ) Thanks Valerie!

The debate over the defeminised image of women in mainstream fashion is far from new, and although the rise in campaigns rallying for change, each year catalogue and couture fashion models are getting skinnier and skinnier. Many of which are without, breasts and curves and are required to enter a culture of starvation to get the best contracts; regardless of the health consequences of this ‘model’ lifestyle have ranged from eating disorders, cancer, infertility and several others.
Over the last month I have been posting some of the most brilliant garments from the recent London and New York Fashion Weeks, and Couture Week in Paris, behind some of these brilliant clothes are female models who are looking more and more like feminine men?!?
As expressed in the daily mail today in references to Andrej Pejic, the Serbian-born model of female beauty is an androgynous lad of 19 from Melbourne, whose body is was described as, as flat as a surfboard, and absolutely fabulous darling!
Size zero turned out to be an apt term as the most feted designers, mostly brilliant gay men, effectively tried to squeeze women out of the fashion equation.

What has been referred to as a ‘betrayal of women’ has been brewing in the fashion world for decades now and as an increasing influx of gay designers are ruling the most recent catwalk trends, we are seeing an influx in models mirroring what looks like pre-pubescent teenagers.
I love the art, design and glamour around fashion, BUT I am also aware of the false needs that fashion creates as a profit seeking industry, and in the hearts and minds of many impressionable people. It has a determined effort to create ‘desires’ through the illusion of self fulfillment from ‘wanting’, ‘having’ and eventually ‘being’.
Now, without getting too sociological, I genuinely feel sad about the gradual depreciation of women as the fashion worlds seeks to create some kind of half-man, half-woman creature as us girls simply cannot, and hopefully keep up.
