Last month the new Lucozade advert debuted as part of its ‘YES’ campaign for the new diet drink ‘Lucozade Sport Lite’. I definitely love the add, its high energy and so summer! Admittedly, it’s not easy to recognize the brand straight away and pleasantly surprised that it was in fact Lucozade. Their attempt at using music as a tangible energy to bring the campaign to life worked. Check it out for yourself and let me know what you think.
The new advert was developed in partnership with Ministry of Sound drum n’ bass artist DJ Fresh and young film director Ben Newman who recruited LA’s best up and coming roller skating talent and one of the world’s best freestyle skateboarders with ‘Louder’ the new single from DJ Fresh as its soundtrack.

Join Ms Afropolitan for an evening exploring African photography, fashion, style and identity. The evening will look back to image-makers who captured the excitement, optimism and sense of freedom of post-independence African nations from the 1960s, and forward to a new generation of ‘Afropolitans’, global tastemakers whose sensibilities are rooted in their African identities. It promises to be a fun and celebratory evening of modern, iconic, African aesthetics, reflecting how Africans living across the continent (and beyond) view themselves and their visual heritage.
All events are free and places designated on a first come, first served basis, unless stipulated otherwise.

South African house music star Spoek Mathambo will be appearing in the UK for the first time, performing a live set with his band, direct from Cape Town.
DJs Vamanos (Ghetto Bassquake and Secousse Sound System) will be DJing in the Grand Entrance, playing contemporary African house and electro music: kuduro, Balani, coupe decale, souks, Kawaito, Pretoria House, Soweto funk, Funana Shangaan electro.
Morroccan photographer and designer Hassan Hajjaj (previously shortlisted for
the Jameel Prize) will be transforming the Grand Entrance into a North African-style salon where you can relax and enjoy a special cocktail.
We will be screening several films, including South African photographer Chris Saunders pictures and films of the Shangaan Electro phenomenon and two documentaries, ‘Dolce Vita Africana’ and ‘Stocktown South Africa’.
‘Dolce Vita Africana’ is a documentary about celebrated Malian photographer Malick Sidibe, whose iconic images of his country from the late 1950s through to the 1970s captured the carefree spirit of his generation asserting their freedom after independence.
Directed by Teddy Goitom and Benjamin Taft, ‘Stocktown South Africa’ takes viewers beyond the stereotypical stories coming out of South Africa. The documentary introduces metal band Ree-burth, the Soweto style setters the ‘Smarteez’ and limpop music genre innovator Gazelle, amongst others, capturing the creative energy and street vibes of Cape Town and Johannesburg.
Visitors will have the opportunity to have their portrait taken by Sal Idriss in a monochrome, Malick Sidibe-esque West African portrait studio.
A fun and interactive installation, which, through the character of Mr Somebody and Mr Nobody, explores what it means to be an African abroad. Heidi Chisholm and Sharon Lombard tap into their shared history as South African expats living in America in this immigrant’s paean to globalisation. Together, they create a fictional world populated by chickens, fast cars, crocodiles, Ndebele airplanes, magical monkeys, flying lions, six fingers and Santa in a devil suit. Bewitching, irresistibly funny, always provocative, it offers proof that alienation, in the right hands, can be exquisite.
Visitors will have the opportunity to work with textile designer Emamoke Ukeleghe to create their own Dutch wax print inspired scarves, using simple screen printing, stencilling and other techniques. The workshop will allow visitors the opportunity to print their own colourful patterns onto existing and found fabrics. Participants will come away with a bold and beautiful scarf, great as a hair accessory or necktie!
Afropolitans Tolu Ogunlesi, Hannah Pool, Minna Salami, Lulu Kitololo discuss what it means to be an Afropolitan. What defines this generation of Africans and Diasporans? How do they incorporate the cultural voice of Africa? How are they changing the socio-cultural perceptions of Africa, and is there such a thing as an Afropolitan aesthetic and identity?
Nicola Stylianou will give an illustrated talk on the textiles designed and worn to commemorate independence in west African countries in the 1960s.
Minna Salami (Ms Afropolitan) and creative director Ola Shobowale present an installation of contemporary Afropolitan fashion for women. Be inspired by the unique and innovative styles that visualise the Afropolitan way of life.
Join a guided tour of the ‘Lifetimes Under Apartheid’ display. Photographer David Goldblatt has explored the social landscape of South Africa since the late 1940s. This display looks at those images that focus on the later years under apartheid rule. The display complements the exhibition ‘Figures and Fictions: Contemporary South African Photography’ in the Porter Gallery.
