Old news old news I know!I have been actually meaning to blog this for a while now, but you know how life goes! #BetterLateThanNever
British fashion sensation Vivienne Westwood started designing products as part of Ethical Fashion Africa, which offers Nairobi’s poor a better life. Earlier this year I showed off what was her latest handbag collection at the time (click here to see post). This time I bring to you some stunning photo’s of her in Kenya, inspiring upcoming and existing designers to go ethical.

Like your blog: Comment on the article: Ok its great she’s there but its in bad taste she’s sprawled all over the road in her brocade outfit with obvious severe poverty in the background. Kenya has some beautiful models she could have used some of them, paid them well, and that would have helped also. Nothing like direct funds.
An interesting point Shaheera, it was mentioned at a recent panel. Fashion out of Africa doesn’t have to be associated with “the streets/slums”, there are plenty of beautiful glamourous women in Africa who she could have paraded around with, rather than walking around Kenya in a gold dress among women who were most likely on their way to the fish market. We need to help people remove the idea that Africa is directly related to AID and dependency.
Rather if she wanted to help “the people” she should actually help them, like you say, direct funds. If she wants to talk fashion, she should do it in a ‘fashionable way’, as she said herself, not treat it like charity but work! I understand that the cause is to promote ethical fashion, but who said ethical fashion has to look gritty. African fashion has earned the right to be seen as luxury, I hope that Vivian and other artists alike will see that soon.
Thanks for your comment. Always love it when someone says something that makes me sit up!
