Looking back, I recall being outlandishly against skinny jeans on men. Slim cut jeans I could deal with, but I simply couldn’t see a place in the world for skinny jeans on men… Evidently I was wrong.

My past misjudgement has made me more open and (I suppose you could say) enthusiastic about the meggings mania which appears to have taken New York by storm and recently been the centre of fashion blogs and online sartorial circles. Just as androgyny is celebrated among several womenswear collections, (like Adrien Sauvage suit collection- Men’s suits for women) shouldn’t androgyny be celebrated in menswear to?

Meggings at a functional level are not only comfortable but just as Sans-Culottes wore tight fitting Mughlai Churidars “platoons” as a political statement in the 19th Century, that hold strong rebellious undertones and give the middle finger to what I think are outdated gendered social conventions.

UNIQLO have already started stocking meggings in their London stores, and I look forward to seeing the trend catch on in Britain, (starting in London’s EC1 areas I’m sure). It might take me a while to get used to seeing the detailed outline of a man’s crotch and buttocks, but I can see it growing on me (the trend that is).
Replies on Twitter have been great, it’s looking pretty even on the polls despite getting loads of nays on twitter. Are the pro meggings massive too shy to speak out? lol
@afroblush I found it ridic as a fashion garment but, eh, each to their own! If man wants to rock meggings or dresses then why not?—

@afroblush They're just so… clingy! Maybe you're right and they'll be the next skinny jeans, but we say approach with LOADS of caution—

When I first read about the meggings trend. I checked the date to see it wasn’t April Fool’s. Leggings are not trousers is something a lot of women seem to have forgotten, let alone men copying this example! Frankly I’d prefer to see men in dresses. The only good thing about it is that men will understand the trauma of wearing tights/leggings the wrong way round and it will work as natural contraceptive!
